About (Me)

Gardening
When I’m not cruising around the nation or giving tours of town I’m gardening. I enjoy growing heritage, rare, or nearly extinct fruit and vegetables and have experimented with native plants in my own yard.
The Best of Britian
I am also a bit of an anglophile. Gifts of scotch, wool items, tea, Welsh cakes, and Lake District pipe tobacco are welcome. This also means all proceeds and tips for tours will go back into restoring my 1954 Morris Minor.
Outdoorsy Stuff
Curious about fly fishing? I am too. Beyond this I’ve become a bit of a trail runner and have really learned to enjoy hiking over the past few years. Anytime I can be outside, especially on or near water is when i’m living my best.
My values
I abide by no hatred. Our time together on this plant is finite and it’s our job to leave a better place than we found it. While we get a few spins around the sun let us also be friendlier and more generous to those around us. Their trip(s) around the sun might not be going as well as our own.

My Mentors & Thanks
Since arriving on the Virginia Peninsula I’ve been honored to have had more than a few historians go from mentors to friends. They not only opened their libraries but their lives to me and I’m forever grateful. I am also indebted to my parents, sister, Kate, and Emmanuel who provide constant support in my research pursuits, rabbit holes, and history obsessions. Lastly, I am indebted to all the people from around the world who have mailed me letters, newspaper clippings, and articles they stumble upon having to do with Civil War Williamsburg.
